Weight Control Calculators

Weight control calculators offer reasonable estimates of each woman's energy requirements. Many of us decide we want to lose weight, but do not necessarily know what that involves. Total body weight is just one piece of the weight loss puzzle.

Knowing how many calories we need just to function, how many more calories we use up through activity, and our body mass index promise more realistic plans for losing body fat.

Calculate Your Calories Needed Daily Just to Function

Each day, if you just stayed in bed, you would still use up calories--your basal energy expenditure. The

Basal Energy Expenditure Calculator

estimates how many calories you need daily if you: (a) had complete bedrest and (b) moved around doing little additional activity. It considers your gender, weight, height, and perceived stress level in the calculation. (Be sure to indicate the correct metric or English units.)

Calculate Your Additonal Calories Used for Daily Activities

Use the Basal Energy Expenditure Calculator figure to represent your basic caloric needs, then add on estimated energy expenditures for your daily activities. Here, you just need to know your weight and the time that you spend on each activity.

Activity Calorie Calculator

When you total up your basal caloric requirements and the additional activity requirements, you get an estimate of how many calories you currently need per day to maintain your weight.

From there, you can make a realistic plan for losing weight by either (a) reducing calories from food intake, (b) increasing activity, or (c) both.

Estimate Your Total Body Proportions

One more useful calculator estimates your proportion of body fat vs. lean body mass. The

Body Mass Index Calculator

uses height and weight to approximate where you are in relation to ideal body proportions. As you lose fat weight, your score will improve on the scale within ranges from morbidly obese to underweight. The Body Mass Index serves as an estimate of your progress in reducing body fat.

These weight control calculators are helpful tools for estimating where you are. They assist you in planning and evaluating your progress throughout the 6 Training Steps.
